The trees used to produce shea butter take around 25 years to bear fruit and because this is such a long process, many are chopped down to be used as a source of fuel. We work with the local communities to provide an alternative source of income from the sale of husks that would have otherwise been thrown into landfills. Using shea husk charcoal is much more sustainable than burning the shea trees themselves for charcoal.
